Müngstener Brücke
Light art festival to support the UNESCO application
Festival of lights in the Bridge Park
The Müngstener Brücke is Germany’s highest railway bridge and a masterpiece of European engineering. It connects the cities of Remscheid and Solingen and spans the Wupper valley at an impressive height of 107 metres. Under the title „European arch bridges of the late 19th century“, it is applying for UNESCO World Heritage status together with five other bridges of similar construction in Portugal, France and Italy.
A light art festival in the Bridge Park is intended to support the UNESCO application. Projections, illuminations and sound installations at various stations in the park create a link between nature and technology and show the founding spirit and boldness of the builders at the time. The Festival of Lights invites visitors to experience the Müngstener Brücke not only as a technical masterpiece, but also as a cultural landmark.
